Activity improved in October and unemployment reached 8%

The National Statistics Institute (INE) presented its “Activity, Employment and Unemployment Report”, corresponding to October 2021, on Wednesday, December 1.

The study expresses that for the entire country, the unemployment rate was 8%. Unemployment in women was 9.2% and in men 6.9%.

Throughout the year, unemployment evolved as follows: in January it stood at 10.7%, in February 11.1% (the highest figure of the year), in March and April it remained at 9.7% , May 10.2%, June 9.4%, July 10.4%, August 10.5% and in September 9.4%.

Activity and employment

According to information from the INE, the activity rate stood at 61.8% and the employment rate at 56.8%.

On the other hand, when observing the characteristics of employed persons, it is estimated that 9.9% are underemployed, while the non-registration of social security for their main job stood at 22.3%.

“The labor market was reactivated in a firm way,” said the Minister of Labor and Social Security, Pablo Mieres, as reported by Presidential Communication.

He added that it is a “significant reduction in unemployment, which maintains a trend that was already three months ago.”
