MIAMI, United States- The United States Coast Guard (USCG) repatriated this Saturday 95 Cuban rafters intercepted in four different operations this week off the Florida Keys, according to a release of said federal agency.

According to the document, the Cuban rafters were transferred to the island by the crew of the Pablo Valent coast guard.

The first of the interceptions, three of them on the same day, occurred Tuesday when a person alerted Coast Guard Sector Key West rangers to a rustic boat near Marathon Humps, Marathon, at approximately 7 p.m.

On Wednesday, another call alerted watchers at the Key West Coast Guard Sector to a crude, overloaded vessel about 22 miles south of Long Key. This occurred at approximately 8:15 in the morning.

Also Wednesday, a crew from Air Station Miami HC-144 Ocean Sentry alerted Sector Key West spotters to a rustic craft that was about 30 miles southwest of Marquesas Key. The statement explained that the announcement took place in the afternoon.

That same day, at approximately 10:15 p.m., Key West Sector watchers responded to Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations aircrew notification of a rustic vessel sailing approximately 20 miles southwest of Marquesas Key.

“The possibility of being apprehended by Coast Guard crews while illegally migrating through the Caribbean Sea is high,” said Lt. Simon Juul Hindsgaul of the 7th Coast Guard District. “Don’t go to sea, choose a legal way to emigrate to another country,” he added.

this thursday another group of 21 Cuban rafters were returned to the island after being intercepted by the Coast Guard off the Florida Keys last Monday in less than six hours.

“Illegally migrating through the Caribbean Sea on vessels that lack safety equipment increases the risk of losing your life and never seeing your loved ones again,” Petty Officer 1st Class Coast Guard District 7 said at the time. .

Since October 1, 2021, the date that marks the beginning of fiscal year 2022, USCG crews have intercepted 2,319 Cubans trying to reach the United States illegally.
