The minimum temperature began to drop in Arequipa a few weeks ago and in the high areas already recorded prolonged frosts.
The National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology (Senamhi) issued the orange level alert where warns severe and very severe frost starting this sunday June 12 to Tuesday 14 in the highlands of the provinces of Caylloma, La Union, Condesuyos, Castilla and Arequipa.

In the high areas above 4 thousand meters above sea level, the minimum temperature will reach up to 22 degrees below zero, while in localities above 3 thousand meters above sea level it will reach minus 6 degrees centigrade.
In the urban cities like Arequipa the night temperature will drop up to 2 degrees, but in some districts like Polobaya, Chiguata the minimum will be up to 2 degrees below zero.
According to the Senmahi, they will also be recorded winds which in some districts could reach speeds of up to 40 kilometers per hour.
