For Roger Federer, "tennis still has to wait a bit"

“Tennis still has to wait a bit”, admitted Roger Federer this Saturday on the Swiss chain SRF, although the winner of 20 Grand Slam still maintains the date of the end of September, in the Laver Cup, as his return to the courts, after more than a year without competing.

Federer claimed that “from time to time” he plays with his four children, but “things are moving slowly” after his third operation on his right knee in the last year and a half.

“I had surgery at the end of August and then we already knew. They always ask me: ‘So, how is everything going?‘ And every time I answer that it will still take a little while,” he explained to SRF.

The former world number 1 explained that he is currently working on his “physical condition, so that there is no overload”, going to the gym “five or six times a week.

“I have to be pacient, I constantly make progress,” added the tennis player, who hopes to have “much more information in the coming months” about the evolution of his physical condition.

Federer maintains his return date for the Laver Cup that isand will be played in London from September 23 to 25 and then he has announced his presence at the tournament in Basel, his hometown, from October 24 to 30.

Swiss tennis player winner of 103 tournaments in more than 20 years of career, he only played thirteen matches in 2021 and six in 2020. Absent from the courts since Wimbledon 2021, he is currently ranked 50th in the ATP.
