The dream of four referents of the Uruguayan national team came true a few days ago with the inauguration of the Focus Sports City, a complex of 20 thousand square meters in the center of Montevideo. The venture of Godín, Scotti, Sánchez and Rebollo has characteristics that make it unique in the region and include it in a select group at a global level.
This was stated by Pablo Gobba, head of Marketing and Communication of the Focus Sports Center. “These benefits are unprecedented in our country today, nor in our continent and, with few exceptions, worldwide,” he said.
The inauguration of this great sports complex, held last Wednesday the 8th and attended by some 400 people, was attended by the former coach of the Uruguayan national team, Óscar Washington Tabárez, who reappeared publicly after being dismissed from that position in November 2021.
The ceremony was “exciting, beautiful, with many people, with acquaintances and friends, and above all we were able to see people that we had not seen for a long time, like the Master,” said Gobba.

The head of Marketing and Communication highlighted that it is a millionaire investment by the four founding partners. “They bet on Uruguay, to invest part of what they have achieved at the sports level outside the country. For the good of the country itself and thinking of the people, which is the great objective of the four of them”, he continued.
This idea arose during Andrés (Scotti)’s passage in the national team, in talks with Walter Ferreira (Celeste’s kinesiologist, who died in early 2016), a leader in injury recovery, and then shared with a few others. “It ended with the realization of a long-awaited dream, to now take this step to the Sports City as we call the one that we have just inaugurated”, added its head of Marketing and Communication.
It is that this is the second headquarters: the first, of 5,500 square meters, is located in Florencio Varela and Magariños Cervantes. The Sports City, on an area of 20,000 square meters, on Agustín Abreu and Cardal streets.
It has an indoor athletics track, closed multi-sport courts, a sand court for beach volleyball and beach soccer, four 5-a-side soccer fields (two of them indoor), a 7-a-side soccer field, two indoor tennis courts, training rooms , artistic gymnastics, among other spaces for physical activity.
“The indoor athletics track is arranged in a heated room with natural light and is another differential, especially since its use can be used by all kinds of people without having to be federated. The Focus partner can fully enjoy it”, Gobba underlined.
He added that 13,500 square meters of this new venture are already operational and stressed that “it still has a lot to grow, that’s the good thing,” he said.
Gobba also highlighted the location of the sports complex: “It is located in a central part of the city, in the heart of Montevideo, surrounded by four avenues”, such as Avenida Italia, 8 de Octubre, Bulevar José Batlle y Ordóñez (Own) and Luis Alberto de Herrera. “You have these benefits 20 minutes from your home, or less.”
It is an ideal place to play sports.
