The European Parliament approved a resolution that calls for sanctioning 14 judges and three magistrates of Appeals in Nicaragua for considering them “a repressive arm responsible for human rights violations” and urged the national authorities to immediately release the more than 180 political prisoners.
The resolution, approved with 524 votes in favor, 17 against and 29 abstentions, points out that the illegitimate judicial rulings confirm the repressive drift of the Daniel Ortega regime “with the patent collusion of the Judiciary,” aimed at silencing opponents.

The MEPs also asked to activate the democratic clause of the Association Agreement between the European Union and Central America, with which they could suspend Nicaragua in the trade agreement; and they requested to open a formal investigation into Daniel Ortega and his regime through the International Criminal Court.
In turn, they regretted that the Ortega administration does not condemn Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The priest Manuel Salvador Garcia Rodriguez57, was taken to a preliminary hearing on Wednesday, June 8, and left in preventive detention for alleged “physical violence in a real contest of psychological violence” to the detriment of the citizen Martha Candelaria Rivas Hernandez.
