The victims of blanket casewho reported having been victims of sexual violence during the internal armed conflict, between 1984 and 1998, at the hands of members of the Peruvian Army, demand greater diligence from the Judiciary in the process, in order to guarantee their integrity and security.
Currently there are 9 victims facing a second oral trial against 13 former Army soldiers. On March 13, three years have passed since this second stage began.
In the last hearing on May 17, it was proposed to resume publicity for the trial through Justicia TV, the official channel of the Power of attorneyand it was agreed that the room would resolve the issue at the next hearing on May 31.

Víctor Álvarez, a lawyer for said organization that represents three of the victims, explained that at the stage of the victims’ statement, the trial was conducted privately to protect their identities and fundamental rights.
“We have seen an interrogation of the aggrieved ladies, quite permissive on the part of the defense attorneys of the accused […] The rules of the game of this hearing were clearly established at the beginning, the case was public but the victims declared the private one, that was fulfilled, but when the declarations have already finished and we have requested that the hearings be public again, the court considered that it should The hearing should continue to be private, and the defense maintained that the presumption of innocence of his defendants should also be considered.”, he explained to Peru21.
The representative of the aggrieved urged the Chamber to resume the publicity of the process as soon as possible. “This case not only involves soldiers of the Peruvian Army, but to officers and non-commissioned officers, one in the rank of captain. From all the circumstances surrounding these cases, it is evident that the crimes were committed in a generalized manner. I cannot affirm that there were orders to carry out these crimes, nor that the higher-ranking officers were aware of the situation, but there should have been greater control of what the personnel did at the military bases.“, held.
Álvarez added that “after so many years, the victims deserve the opportunity to at least end impunity in a specific case,” such as the Manta Case.
