The first lady of the United States, Jill Biden, accepted the invitation of her Argentine counterpart, Fabiola Yáñez, to join the Alliance of Spouses of Heads of State of the region (ALMA), during a meeting of the entity in the city of Los Angels.

The ALMA Alliance met this Friday, within the framework of the IX Summit of the Americas, in an activity that included the first lady of Brazil, Michelle Bolsonaro, in charge of general coordination, and in which Fabiola Yañez participated, who served as that role during the 2020-2021 period.

Jill Biden participated in the meeting for the first time, who informed her peers of her decision to join the Alliance.

In the exchange that the first ladies had, Yáñez focused on the problem of grooming and recounted the work that has been carried out by the NGO Grooming, the first global institution that seeks to raise awareness about the crime of harassment of minors through the digital networks and platforms.

The head of the NGO, Hernán Navarro, also participated in the activity, who together with Yáñez reported that Argentina is a pioneer in criminalizing grooming and urged that all countries in the hemisphere place the problem on the public agenda with awareness campaigns that contribute to prevent and combat it.

In addition, the first lady of Argentina reported on the project that the Banco Nación Foundation, which she chairs honorarily, supports the creation of software with artificial intelligence for the early detection of cervical cancer.

This initiative implies an innovation in health matters, not only for Argentina but for the entire continent, he highlighted in his speech before the rest of the participants.

The ALMA meeting, which was held at the Consulate General of Brazil in Los Angeles, was attended by the First Ladies of Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay, Panama, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica and Ecuador, all members of the Alliance.

On this occasion, apart from the American Jill Biden, the First Lady of Suriname, Mellisa Santokhi-Seenacherry, as well as representatives of the Caribbean Community (Caricom) and Spouses of Caricom Leaders Action Network (Sclan) attended for the first time.
