One of the main Brazilian airports will be granted to the private sector through an auction to be held on the day august 18. Located in São Paulo, Congonhas Airport will be auctioned along with other terminals such as Uberlândia (MG), Uberaba (MG) and Montes Claros (MG) in a system known as auction by blocks. “Where we put a large airport where it is profitable, in surplus together with other airports that do not have the ‘advantage’, perhaps, of profit, but they are important airports when we talk about internalizing our infrastructure, democratizing access to our aviation”, said the Minister of Infrastructure, Marcelo Sampaio, interviewed on the program The Voice of Brazil of this fridaythursday (10).
Another block will be led by Belém airport, along with other airports in the Pará region. According to the minister, there will be a more general block with the airports of Campo de Marte (SP) and Jacarepaguá (RJ). The amount of expected investments is R$ 7.3 billion. “These investments will bring regional development and job creation,” he said.
According to the minister, the airports of Santos Dumont (RJ) and Galeão (RJ) will be awarded in an eighth round, to be held in 2023.
The minister said that, in about 3 years and 6 months, 84 assets were auctioned through the Concessions Program, bringing a sum of more than R$ 100 billion contracted. “This will generate a boom in infrastructure.” “This will transform our country”, he celebrates.

During the interview, the minister also spoke about the merger of two public companies: the Planning and Logistics Company (EPL) and Valec – Engenharia, Construções e Ferrovias. According to Sampaio, one of the major objectives of this merger is the search for the reduction of the State apparatus and the search for efficiency.
