Industrial activity grows in April, but oil extraction and civil works fall

Compared to the same month of 2021, the Monthly Indicator of Industrial Activity reached an increase of 2.9% in real terms.

At an annual rate, Manufacturing industries grew 4.5%, Generation, transmission and distribution of electricity, supply of water and gas through pipelines to the final consumer, 3.2%, Construction, 2.1%, and Mining .1 percent.

Oil and gas extraction and civil engineering works fall

Within the mining sector, the only item that had a monthly and annual decrease was oil and gas extraction, with declines of 3.3% and 1.4%, respectively.

Within the construction sector, both building and specialized jobs for the industry grew at monthly rates of 2.8 and 4.3%. However, the construction of civil engineering works decreased 7% in April, at a monthly rate.

The good news is that civil engineering works, although it had a growth of 1.4% compared to the same month of 2021.

In the manufacturing sector, the manufacture of oil and coal products grew 39.8%, at a monthly rate, during April. This is the subsector that grew the most, followed by others such as the manufacturing of computer and communication equipment (13.5% monthly), the printing industry (10.9%) and the chemical industry (8%).

On the other hand, monthly falls were observed in the wood industry (-6.5%) and the manufacture of textile products, not counting clothing (-6.2%)
