The Olimpia club of Paraguay announced this Friday a sanction of 25,000 dollars applied by Conmebol after the match against the Uruguayan club Atlético Peñarol in the group stage of the Copa Libertadores.
The Dean reported in a statement that he was notified of a fine for “invasion or attempted invasion of the field of play” in accordance with article 102 section A of the Conmebol disciplinary code.
The infraction “due to incorrect and inappropriate behavior” was committed by a fan on May 4 at the Defensores del Chaco stadium in the duel against Peñarol in the group stage of the Libertadores.
The Paraguayan club also reported that the board of directors resolved this Thursday in an ordinary session to instruct an administrative summary to “determine those involved” and assign responsibilities.
The striped reminded his fans that these types of events directly affect the institution’s coffers and asked them for “collaboration and understanding” to avoid similar situations in the future.
According to the note spread on the club’s social networks, the fan’s misconduct “has caused direct damage” to the expected income for his participation in the continental tournament and also “contravenes the great economic effort of the members and fans.”
On April 5 of this year Olimpia received fines for a total of 78,000 dollars after the classic against Cerro Porteño that faced them on April 5 for date 1 of Group G of the most important tournament in the region.
The offenses committed at that time were Invasion or attempted invasion of the field of play, throwing objects, flares, fireworks, gestures and words that convey inappropriate and provocative messages. EFE
