In the framework of his speech at the IX Summit of the Americas, the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, reiterated his annoyance with the determination of the United States regarding the exclusion of Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua, emphasizing the bloc that maintains the North American country with Cuba.
“I thank President Biden for the invitation he has extended to us. We are here to dialogue, to listen and for this reason we have the deepest conviction that for this to really work there can be no exclusions. We should all be here and we are not all”, stated the President.
“I don’t like the exclusion of Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua. Do you know why? Because it would be different to sustain in a forum like this, with all the countries present, the urgent need of Nicaragua’s political prisoners, or also the moral importance and practice of putting an end once and for all to the unjust and unacceptable blockade of the United States against the people of Cuba,” he added.
Along the same lines, President Boric called for solutions and agreements, since, in his opinion, the exclusion of countries promotes isolation among nations.
“Those things are important that when we disagree, we can say it to each other’s faces. Exclusion only fosters isolation and does not give results, as we have learned historically,” he said.
“For our country, unrestricted respect for human rights is a civilizational minimum that we will always promote, regardless of the political color of the government that violates them. We have to start from home, it includes ourselves,” he added.
Near the end of his speech, the President emphasized that “we cannot settle for being exclusive clubs of countries that think the same or similar. The time has come to leave polarization and fragmentation behind and take action; be a single voice from America for the world”.
“From all of America we can and must change the world,” he concluded.
