Ortega cancels operation records for 17 foreign NGOs

The Ministry of the Interior (Migob) canceled this Friday the operation registration of 17 non-governmental organizations of foreign origin that developed projects of humanitarian, cultural, health, access to basic services, among other initiatives, that benefited the most vulnerable populations. vulnerable from Nicaragua.

With the cancellation of these organizations, the Migob has already accumulated a total of 469 associations, foundations and NGOs canceled since November 2018 and of these 44 correspond to international organizations that have developed social projects for decades. The elimination of legal status and operation registration have been based on not registering as “Foreign Agents” and violating the law Law No. 1115, General Law of Regulation and Control of Non-Profit Organizations.

Among the organizations canceled this Friday are eight from the United States, four from Spain, one from the Netherlands, Italy, England, the United Kingdom and Germany, respectively. One of the canceled organizations is the Chacocente Project, which develops initiatives on housing, health, education, job training for families at risk, among others.

As well as the Fundación Semillas para el Progreso (Seeds for Progress Foundation), which carries out projects for quality education in the coffee-growing communities of Nicaragua. Also the Semg Solidaria Foundation that has carried out, together with the Ministry of Health, several projects aimed at training doctors, including scholarships to study abroad.

Another of the canceled organizations is the House of the Third World, from Germany, which has cultural exchange and volunteer projects between Nicaraguans and Germans. This program takes place in Estelí, Condega and Somoto.

The Migob also canceled the Doctors for the World Association of Spain, which in 2019 suspended its operations in Nicaragua due to the sociopolitical crisis that triggered serious human rights violations. “Being consistent with our principles and values ​​prevents Doctors of the World from continuing to work with a government that systematically violates the human rights of the Nicaraguan population,” assured members of this association.

The rest of the canceled foundations are: the Dutch Service for Development Cooperation, which closed its operations in Nicaragua on December 31, 2021; Terra Nuova, Christian Aid, Farmacéuticos Mundi, El Sueño de la Campana Foundation, Nuevas Esperanzas, Empowerment International, Minnesota-León Project, Nicaraguan Humanitarian and Development Foundation, The Nature Conservancy, Wateraid America and Hope Road Nicaragua.

Migob orders to liquidate goods and assets in 72 hours

According to the Migob resolution, published in the Official Gazette, the 17 organizations canceled this June 10 violated Nicaraguan law by not submitting their financial statements with a breakdown of income, expenses, trial balance, donations (origin, origin and final beneficiary).

Likewise, they did not detail which are the boards of directors of the country of origin, nor did they provide the names of the donors with identification number, address and telephone numbers. Nor did they detail previous donations.

“The 17 organizations of other nationalities, within 72 hours, must deliver to this address all the documents related to the liquidation of goods and assets, as well as accounting books (Diary and Ledger), book of minutes and book of registration of members. , which were authorized by this authority for their protection”, states the resolution signed by Franya Urey Blandón, general director of the General Directorate of Registration and Control of NPOs.
