The Public Ministry says it is ready to hear a preliminary hearing in the Octopus Case

SANTO DOMINGO.– Deputy Attorney General Wilson Camacho highlighted on Monday the strength of the accusation against those involved in administrative corruption in the Anti Octopus Case and assured that the Public Ministry is ready for the preliminary hearing of the process to be known.

Camacho made the statement when answering questions from the press after Judge Deiby Timoteo Peguero, of the Seventh Investigating Court of the National District, postponed the start of the preliminary hearing of the case for June 27, from 9 a.m. :00 in the morning.

“Remember that this accusation has more than 3,500 pieces of evidence and among them more than 400 witnesses. So it is normal that one or the other defense needs to be given some documentation, ”Camacho said as he responded to reporters.

He added that “today there has been a request in this regard. We have assumed the commitment to notify each of the parties, those who have been requesting, so that this hearing is known”.

Camacho assured that the Public Ministry is ready to know this process and said he hopes that in the next hearing it can be known.

Wilson Camacho is part of the litigation team that represented the Public Ministry together with Yoneivy González, Elizabeth Paredes, Héctor García and Ernesto Guzmán Alberto.

In this case, the Public Ministry accuses Juan Alexis Medina Sánchez of being part of a corruption network that defrauded the State of billions of pesos from taxpayers, taking advantage of his condition as the brother of the then President of the Republic, Danilo Medina Sánchez.

“I do not give details about open investigations,” Camacho said, in response to a journalist who asked him about statements by prosecutor Mirna Ortiz that social actors interpret from different perspectives.

“Now, our investigations must be evaluated by the results. Wait for the results of our investigations,” Camacho said, referring to Mirna Ortiz’s statements in an appearance as a guest at El Despertador, in which journalists Ana Mitila Lora and Rosa Encarnación answered the question of a citizen who was asking about the former president. brother of the main accused of the Anti Octopus Operation.

Juan Alexis Medina Sánchez and 27 other individuals and 21 companies are accused in an extensive file for corruption and money laundering, of about 3,500 pages.

In addition to Medina Sánchez, the case is against the co-defendants Fernando Rosa, who directed the Patrimonial Fund of Reformed Companies (Fonper); Wacal Bernabé Méndez Pineda and José Dolores Santana Carmona. All are serving preventive detention at the Najayo Hombres Correction and Rehabilitation Center, in San Cristóbal.

Carmen Magalys Medina Sánchez is also involved in the case, who also took advantage of her family ties and her position as vice president of Fonper to commit crimes within the corruption network of which her brother Juan Alexis Medina Sánchez served as operational manager.

Also, Francisco Pagán Rodríguez, former director general of the Office of Supervising Engineers of State Works (Oisoe), and Aquiles Alejandro Christopher, former inspector of that state unit.

The accusation of the case presented by the General Directorate of Persecution of the Public Ministry and Pepca also includes Julián Suriel Suazo, Lorenzo Wilfredo (Freddy) Hidalgo Núñez, who was Minister of Public Health; the former Comptroller General Rafael Antonio Germosén and Domingo Antonio Santiago Muñoz.

The Public Ministry also filed charges against the legal entities General Supply Corporation SRL, Domedical Supply SRL, Fuel América Inc. Dominicana SRL, and Globus Electrical SRL, among others.
