How much health insurance was paid for job loss in a pandemic

The Resource Administrator of the General System of Social Security in Health (Adres) presented a balance on the payment of medical insurance to people who lost their jobs or the ability to pay in the covid-19 pandemic.

($500 billion is lost to ‘phantom’ traffic accidents).

With this modality, health care was provided to 6.3 million people and some 2.02 billion pesos were usedwithin the plan to mitigate the effects of the covid-19 pandemic on the country’s health and economy.

“This is a population that over the course of the two years of the pandemic lost their job or their ability to pay at some point. This does not mean that, at present, the 6.3 million people covered by this mechanism are still unemployed. The vast majority have already recovered their ability to pay and returned to their regular health system contributor status,” said Jorge Gutiérrez Sampedro, director general of Adres.

This mechanism started in 2020, and with it, the continuity of health insurance has been maintained; allowing those who did not have the form of payment of the monthly health payment, to continue with medical treatments and be treated in case of contagion of coronavirus.

“The most serious thing in the midst of the covid-19 pandemic was having people without health insurance, and if they required health care, they could not have it due to economic issues. With the modality of emergency assets, this was avoided. Opportunely we were able to identify the users who had been contributing and began to be in arrears. The EPS immediately changed the affiliation status and the Adres paid for the medical insurance”, assured the director of the entity.

(Hospitals and clinics received transfer for $456,092 million).

The coronavirus emergency affected the entire national territory, which is why Adres has recognized the value of health insurance for people who lost their jobs or their ability to pay in Bogotá, Antioquia, Valle, Cundinamarca, Santander – departments large and crowded.

“We also identified people with these vulnerability characteristics in the Amazon area, Chocó, San Andrés, Putumayo; where we arrived guaranteeing the continuity of their medical services”, Gutierrez Sampedro added.

The emergency asset mechanism will continue to be executed by Adres until the end of the health emergency decreed by the National Government; once it ends, those people where the condition of vulnerability and lack of resources persists may join the Subsidized Health Regime; but those that have been identified in the Sisbén survey as “not poor and not vulnerable” they must migrate to the Contributive Health Regime or benefit from the Solidarity Contribution mechanism.
