By almost 90%: COVID-19 cases increase in adults aged 35 to 39 years nationwide

According to him Social Health Insurance (Essalud), in the last six weeks there was an increase in coronavirus cases in adults over 65 to 69 years of age, above 50%. In this sense, they indicated that this increase in cases also occurs in adults between 35 and 39 years of age, with an increase of almost 90%.

“At the national level, in the age range of 35 to 39 years, there is an increase in cases consecutively for 6 weeks, from 576 to 1,081, that is, almost 90%”, Dante Cersso, head of the Intelligence and Data Analysis Unit (UIAD) of Essalud.

While in the range of 65 to 69 years of age, an increase from 150 to 359 new cases is registered, also during 6 weeks, that is, more than 50%.

Cersso commented therefore that the virus is not only affecting the elderly but also the adult population, young people and minors. That is, growth has also been occurring, in the last four or five weeks, in people aged 50 to 54 years, 60 to 64 years, 70 to 74 years and 75 to 79 years.

Adolescents between 15 and 19 years old and minors between 10 and 14 years old (for three consecutive weeks) are also added to these age groups in the last five weeks consecutively.

Regular hospitalizations and ICUs increase

The official mentioned that there is also an increase in the occupancy of ICU beds (Intensive Care Unit).

In these critical areas at the beginning of this month 331 patients were registered and as of today there are 386, which means an increase of 16% (55 more patients).

The increase in serious coronavirus patients is present in networks in Lima and provinces such as Tumbes, Moyobamba, Tacna, Ayacucho, La Libertad, Piura, Apurímac and Lambayeque, so far this month.

As for the deceased, the spokesperson indicated that there are more than 200 deaths a week and the average is more than 30 people daily. In the last seven days, 229 deaths were counted, 12 less than the previous week in which there were 241 deaths.

Cases tripled in Piura

Regarding the situation in regions, the specialist mentioned that the trend continues to rise. The situation continues to be more critical in the Piura region where there has been a consecutive increase in the last seven weeks. Only in the last week these increased from 280 to 861 cases, that is, more than triple.

Other regions where, he said, an increase in cases is observed for two consecutive weeks are Ucayali, which went from 9 to 27 new infections, and Junín, which went from 229 to 256 new ones. cases in the last week.

“We must not be overconfident“

The Essalud spokesperson finally recalled the importance of completing the vaccination with both doses to be protected and not develop serious symptoms of COVID-19.

“It does not mean that people will not get it, whether vaccinated or not. The difference is that in the person who is vaccinated, the possibility of requiring hospitalization is lower and at the same time that he or she needs an ICU bed or dies”, He indicated.

For this reason, he stressed that even with the vaccine, prevention measures such as permanent use of the mask and avoiding crowds cannot be relaxed.

“We must not fall into an excess of confidence, think that because more than 60% have both dose the mask is no longer necessary. We see in some districts of Lima that many people are no longer using the mask”, He expressed with concern.
