The US renews a license to Venezuela to carry out transactions related to covid-19

The United States government issued a new license on Friday, June 10, that allows the administration of Nicolás Maduro to carry out certain transactions related to the covid-19 pandemic.


The United States Department of the Treasury renewed the license that authorizes certain transactions and activities with the administration of Nicolás Maduro related to the attention of the covid-19 pandemic. The initial license, identified with the number 39, It had been issued on June 17, 2021 and expired on June 17, 2022.

The new license issued this Friday, June 10, named 39A, extends the authorization until June 2023.

The document establishes the exemptions, exceptions and humanitarian authorizations to cover additional transactions and activities related to covid-19. These include transactions and activities involving the delivery of masks, ventilators and oxygen tanks, vaccinations and the production of vaccines, anticovid tests, air filtration systems and field hospitals related to the coronavirus, among others.

The authorization allows Venezuelan state banks to carry out transactions intended to deal with the pandemic, including: the Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV), the Bank of Venezuela and the Bicentennial Bank del Pueblo, de la Clase Obrera, Mujer y Comunas, or any entity in which these financial entities own, either individually or jointly, directly or indirectly, a participation of 50% or more.

License from the US Department of the Treasury clarifies that transactions or activities involving Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) are not authorized, the Bank for Economic and Social Development of Venezuela (Bandes) or Banco Bandes Uruguay SA (Bandes Uruguay), or any entity in which these institutions hold, either individually or jointly, directly or indirectly, a 50% or plus.
