Economist Carlos Araúz: ‘We are not measuring the progress of Panamanians on a par with growth’

He added that this narrative has to move from poetry to action. “There are 43 signed agreements that remain to be executed between the public-private sector for the generation of employment and economic reactivation, but it has not started,” he said.

The banker and economist, Carlos Araúz, made an analysis this Friday, on Radio Panama about the economic situation of the country, indicating that there is optimism because we are going to continue growing, however there is frustration because we are not landing to be able to solve the problems of Panamanians .

“You have to measure social progress, the quality of life of Panamanians along with growth, they are not exclusive, and we still have to do that,” he said.

He added that this narrative has to move from poetry to action. “There are 43 signed agreements that are yet to be executed between the public-private sector for the generation of employment and economic reactivation, but it has not started. I think we have to focus a bit on the sense of urgency, on foreign investment, direct, and it has to oscillate between 5 thousand to 6 thousand million dollars every year in Panama, otherwise, there is no such approach in the current account of the Panamanian Treasury,” he said.
