They recover 52 works from the Central University of Venezuela

The engineer of the Infrastructure Subcommittee, Francisco Garcés, announced in the Café en la Mañana program that the National Government together with the Central University of Venezuela (UCV), began to work on the recovery of the spaces of the institution .

The Vice President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, with the support of President Nicolás Maduro, created a work commission in order to analyze and work towards recovering the spaces of the UCV.

In this way, the recovery work began, beginning with the dismantling of the slabs and following a series of protocols, endorsed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

“Both the university and the national government have an interest in preserving the heritage of all humanity and Venezuelans,” said the engineer of the Infrastructure Subcommittee, Francisco Garcés.

“Not only because it is a very important infrastructure for the country and all Venezuelans, but also because it has a world heritage value, let us remember that the Central University of Venezuela was declared a cultural heritage of humanity on December 2, 2000,” he said. Garces.

The engineer announced that work is being carried out in 52 works of the UCV, 154 laboratories, 541 rooms, 12 workshops, 157 thousand square meters of waterproofing have been recovered with well-reviewed, modern techniques and with the best materials, 21 kilometers of curbs, 26 kilometers of marking, 7 courts, 70 thousand square meters of landscaping, 2 kilometers of irrigation system, 45 thousand square meters of concrete, 45 thousand square meters of mosaic, 1,925 exterior lamination lamps and 120 thousand light bulbs that were placed as new.

“We have the possibility that more than 25,000 students can access renovated classrooms that have been recovered and are in optimal conditions,” said Garcés.

Work phases

The first phase was to ensure that after the pandemic the university was in a position to receive students and be able to carry out the works that it has always carried out.

The second phase was the recovery and treatment of the works of art.

The third phase was the most complex, since restructuring and work on structural pathologies (diseases suffered by structures) are carried out.

The engineer Francisco Garcés, indicated that currently the three phases are being worked on in parallel, and that the labor inspectors are the teaching staff together with part of the UCV graduates.

“At the end of this year we are going to continue to increase the quality of the university we have in terms of its structure,” assured Francisco Garcés.
