The deputy mayor of the capital district, Judy Meana, referred this Friday to the proliferation of people who live on the streets, indicating that they are working with other government institutions and foundations to eradicate the problem, which has increased for two years with the arrival of the pandemic.
He revealed that on Thursday the Directorate of Social Management of the Mayor’s Office of Panama in conjunction with Municipal Surveillance carried out an operation where they captured 27 people in a street situation, who were taken to the Sports Complex of the Lions Club of Marañón where they received medical attention, food and other aids.
Meana stressed that in addition to other institutions, they are talking with church pastors to be able to transfer these people to rehabilitation centers.
He recalled that these people cannot be forced to intern, so it is a decision of each one.
