During the second day of the IX Summit of the Americas, Alberto Fernandez as president pro tempore of CELAC (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States), he gave his first speech.
The Head of State began his presentation with a criticism of the United States for excluding Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela from the Summit, on which Alberto Fernandez He stated that the North American country did not have the right to “impose an admission fee” for being the “host country”.
“I regret that not all of us who should have been present were able to be present, in this environment so conducive to debate”, this is how he started his speech Alberto Fernandez about which he later expressed his deep concern about the current crisis in Latin America.
“We definitely would have wanted another Summit of the Americas. The silence of the absent challenges us. So that this does not happen again, I would like to make it clear for the future that the fact of being the host country of the Summit does not grant the ability to impose a “right of admission” on the member countries of the continent,” said the president.
Along these same lines, the president considered that organizations such as the OAS must be rebuilt, since “a single thought cannot be imposed in a world that demands symphonic harmony in the face of common dramas.”
“The OAS, if it wants to be respected and return to being the regional political platform for which it was created, must be restructured by immediately removing those who run it,” Fernandez asserted, pointing at the Regional Development Bank.
Of course, during his speech the president made a warning about the consequences of the war, “Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has a full impact on us. It is urgent to build negotiation scenarios that put an end to the war catastrophe”.
Alberto Fernández called for unity to overcome the challenges facing the region
In addition to the effects of war, the head of state he asked that as a region all the countries unite to overcome the current challenges; among them, climate change, the pandemic and the economic crisis.
“I dream that in a fraternally united America, we commit ourselves so that all human beings who inhabit our continent have the right to bread, land, a roof over their heads and a decent job.”
