Economy Minister Paulo Guedes said today (9) that the government is making its contribution to the country’s production chain. “We are lowering taxes, we have reduced import taxes for the first time in 40 years of Mercosur, we have zeroed taxes on products such as boneless products, grains, rice and beans, we have reduced all taxes on the basic food basket, federal taxes”.
Guedes also recalled the reduction of the Tax on Industrialized Products (IPI). “There was a 35% reduction in IPI, we zeroed ICMS [Imposto sobre Circulação de Mercadorias e Serviços]we are making our contribution to our production chain”.
The minister spoke this Thursday morning (9) at the opening of the National Supply Chain Forum, promoted by the Brazilian Association of Supermarkets (Abras).
Guedes expressed support for a proposal presented by the president of Abras, João Galassi, for the supermarket chain not to correct the food price table until 2023. , new table only in 2023”, he said.
During his opening speech, Guedes mentioned the importance of Brazil in food and energy security, especially during the pandemic. “Brazil is a green giant, it is the most important protagonist of energy and food security in the world”.
