Some 2,000 people were evacuated in southern Spain due to a forest fire

Some 2,000 people were evacuated due to a forest fire in the province of Malaga, in southern Spain, where the flames already destroyed 10,000 hectares in September 2021.

The fire started on Wednesday afternoon in Sierra Bermeja, in the southern region of Andalusiashortly before the start of the heat wave expected for these days, which can leave peaks of more than 40 degrees in the area, the AFP news agency published.

According to the Andalusian authorities, About 500 firefighters and members of the Military Emergency Unit (UME) were deployed in the area to put out the fire, described as powerful and “complicated” to manage due to the wind and the complexity of this “difficult access” terrain.

While, three firefighters were injured in the tasks of extinguishing the calls, one of them with serious burns, for which he was transferred to the Malaga hospital.

“Difficult night in Sierra Bermeja,” the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, wrote on Twitter, thanking the work of the emergency services and showing his “support and solidarity with the affected neighbors.”

The Sierra Bermeja area, in the interior of Malaga, already suffered a terrible fire in September, which destroyed almost 10,000 hectares and claimed the life of a 44-year-old firefighter.
