Dominicans have the opportunity to invest in Puerto Rico

Officials of the commercial area of Puerto Rico informed this Wednesday to entrepreneurs and investors in the Dominican Republic that they have 75,000 million dollars for the reconstruction of Puerto Ricomainly in areas of Energy, sightseeing and infrastructures that allow the development of the Isla del Encanto.

“Now comes the reconstruction phase, to do everything not as it was before, but to do it better. And now we have around 75,000 million dollars to rebuild Puerto Rico”indicated Nelson Torres Martinezdirector of the Commercial Office of the Government of Puerto Rico in the Dominican Republic.

On your side, Manuel Cidre MirandaSecretary of the Department of Economic Development and Commerce of Puerto Ricosaid that there is a large number of Puerto Rican businessmen “very interested” in participating in the economic development of the Dominican Republic, “which is an example at the regional level.”

Also, he pointed out that many Dominicans are willing to insert themselves in Puerto Rico before the recovery as a result of the different events that affected the island and the entry of 50,000 million federal dollars to rebuild the country.

Both officials spoke after participating in the forumPuerto Rico: opportunities and incentives”which took place in a hotel in the city.

“In terms of business in the Dominican Republic of Puerto Rico, we have been looking very closely at technological issues, services, energy and the chemical issue”Miranda emphasized.

From an investment point of view Puerto RicoOf the 50,000 million dollars, we have to focus on energy with 10,000 million dollars, tourism, highways, infrastructure, bridges, water, businesses, small and medium businesses, where all those federal funds are distributed as a priority to each of those sectors,” he added.

On December 2, 2021, the Presidency of the Republic announced that the Dominican and Puerto Rico they had signed a Joint Declaration for the Strategic Alliance with a view to strengthening commercial, cultural, sports and cooperation relations, among other areas of mutual interest.

The declaration was signed by the president Louis Abinader and the governor of Puerto Rico, Peter Pierluisiin the Hall of Ambassadors of the National Palace.

The signed document establishes that it seeks to encourage the establishment of strategic business and commercial alliances between both island economies, including the promotion of business councils and chambers of commerce, among others.

The Joint Declaration for the Strategic Alliance modernizes the 2009 Aguadilla Agreement and provides an updated framework, taking into account the changing reality of a post-COVID-19 world.
