The remaining two parties that accuse the former Bolivian de facto president Jeanine Áñez, in the so-called “coup d’état II” case, agreed to request this Wednesday a 15-year prison sentence for the former senator, just as the Prosecutor’s Office had requested on Monday and yesterday the Ministry of Government, while his defense demanded his acquittal.
In the new day of the process carried out The First Anti-Corruption Sentencing Court of La Paz heard the arguments of the State Attorney General’s Office and the head of the Senate, Andrónico Rodríguez -the complainant of the case-, all with the same request.
As on Monday the Prosecutor’s Office had requested 15 years in prison and on Tuesday the Ministry of Government did the same, always for the crimes of breach of duties and resolutions contrary to the Constitution and the laws, the four accusing instances agreed on the requested penalty.
“For the deaths, for the struggle, for the demand, for the mourning, for the tears, for the injuries, your authorities must sentence Mrs. Jeanine Áñez and the members of the Military High Command to establish an exemplary sentence. (We ask) that authorities issue a 15-year sentence,” said the lawyer Juan Kalleb Clemor, representative of the Attorney General’s Office.

Kalleb Clemor questioned the fact that Añez, during the conflicts that followed the 2019 elections and the forced resignation of Evo Morales from the Presidency, had issued orders to the Armed Forces in her capacity as senator, detailed the Los Tiempos newspaper site. .
He also denounced that he made the trip from Trinidad to La Paz – to assume the Presidency – with the presidential protection of the Bolivian Armed Forces and Police.
In this regard, he accused the commanders of the forces for obeying orders from an assemblywoman.
The lawyer insisted that the sessions in which Añez gradually assumed the presidencies were irregular because there was no call, there was no quorum and Morales’ resignation letters were not considered. and the then president of the Senate, Adriana Salvatierra.
The argument of the defense of the former president was heard later.
“I ask for an acquittal in favor of former president Jeanine Añez,” said lawyer Norka Cuéllar, which also highlighted the contribution of the defendant as an assembly member who drafted the Political Constitution of the State of 2009 and her role as a legislator of the Nation.
Later, the president of the Court, Germán Ramos, announced a new intermediate room until tomorrow afternoon, when the replicas will take place and, probably, there will be a sentence.
When the hearing was reinstated, there was a request from the defense so that the sessions do not extend too long due to the state of Áñez’s health, which, according to the lawyers, suffered from hypothermia in other long days, reported the state agency ABI.
The former de facto president follows the instances of the trial virtually from the Miraflores prison.
The president of the Court, Germán Ramos, asked the prison doctors to assist the former president if any ailment arose.
Also accused in the process are the former Chief of Staff Flavio Gustavo Arce; the ex-commander of the Army Pastor Mendieta; former Police Commander Yuri Calderón and former Armed Forces Commander Williams Kaliman, the latter two fugitives.
Áñez faces two other simultaneous trials, one the “Coup d’etat I case”, for her acts as president and others for the deaths that occurred during the so-called Sacaba and Senkata massacres, where street protests were repressed.
