“It is time for renewal and change,” said the daughter of the former Nicaraguan foreign minister, in her Twitter account. Twitter.

This Tuesday, June 7, a group of relatives of 70 political prisoners requested that in Nicaragua there be a “constructive meeting” with the rulers, the active forces of the nation and the Catholic Church so that “the necessary foundations for common well-being” are forged. .

The message also calls for the release of all prisoners of conscience: “When we yearn to reunite with loved ones, our best way to express that feeling is by telling them: we are waiting for you like May water”, in reference to the rainy season which has already started in the country.

“Last month (May) the rains returned to Nicaragua on time, and we as relatives of political prisoners, encouraged by the positive spirit of new beginnings, today ask the rulers for their release,” they point out.

Among the 70 relatives of political prisoners who request a dialogue between the opposition, civil society and the Ortega government, are the relatives of Francisco Aguirre Sacasa who support this request.

Aguirre Sacasa, is one of the more than 180 Nicaraguans held hostage by the Daniel Ortega dictatorship and since February 18, 2021, the Public Ministry changed the precautionary measure for the former diplomat, Arturo Cruz and José Pallais. The three political prisoners are serving their prison sentences under house arrest, due to their serious deterioration in health after more than eight months in prison.

The former Nicaraguan foreign minister, this Tuesday, is serving 316 days in prison. Ortega’s justice, on February 7, convicted him of allegedly “conspiring to undermine national integrity” and sentenced him to eight years in prison.

According to the Mechanism for the Recognition of Political Prisoners, in Nicaragua there are more than 180 prisoners of conscience by the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo. All have been victims of torture, according to reports from their families.
