The president of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, announced that by the end of 2022 his country’s investments in Venezuela will increase, which could reach 1,000 million dollars.
Erdogan stressed that the volume of Turkish-Venezuelan bilateral trade, which in 2019 was only about 150 million dollars, exceeded 850 million last year, for which the president predicted that the current year will reach one billion dollars. .
“We had 150 million dollars of investments in 2019, in 2020 we have doubled this volume of trade, and now we have tripled this figure and it is reaching 850 million dollars, we are going to end this year with 1,000 million dollarsErdogan said after a meeting with his Venezuelan counterpart, Nicolás Maduro, in the city of Ankara.
Erdoğan indicated that Venezuela became an important partner for Türkiye in Latin America.
“Venezuela is a very important partner in Latin America and the Caribbean and we will never forget the solidarity they have shown for Türkiye (…) Venezuela was one of the countries that supported our Government during the coup attempt [en 2016]”, he pointed.
Caracas is one of the few cities in Latin America that has a regular connection of seven flights a week with Istanbul, thanks to the Turkish flag carrier Turkish Airlines, the Turkish president recalled.
President Erdogan promised to return Maduro’s visit to Ankara with a trip to Caracas next July.
The Turkish leader’s last visit to Venezuela was in December 2018, while Maduro had traveled to Turkey in July of the same year.
