The president of the YPF company, Pablo González, stated that “post-pandemic Argentina has a YPF that by the second half of next year will be self-sufficient in oil, that is, all YPF distilleries will be supplied with own oil.

González spoke at an event to commemorate the centenary of YPF, within the framework of the Engineering Week organized by the Faculty of Engineering of the UBA.

The director pointed out that “today we have a problem with the supply of gas-oil. Historically, Argentina imports 30% of the gas-oil it consumes and YPF imports 12% of the gas-oil it consumes. Argentina is consuming 15 % more gas-oil and last month was the period with the highest consumption of gas-oil in the entire history of YPF and that is due to the greater economic movement, but the world is also consuming more”.

Regarding Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), González said that “in Europe, LNG is quoted at 40 dollars while we receive 3.60 dollars through the GasAr Plan, look at the difference. We have to move towards an LNG plant, that is the challenge, because an LNG plant costs 11.5 billion dollars.

“We are proud to have the first oil engineers, we have to open the door for our country to continue growing. I hope they bet on Argentina and the immense resources we have to develop,” said the company’s president.

González revealed that “Argentina needs transportation systems for both gas and electricity. CAMMESA is telling us that we cannot incorporate more wind farms because there is no more transportation capacity.”

The manager stated that “our obligation is to lay the foundations for there to be a state policy for energy.”
