Santo Domingo.- Friends and relatives of the assassinated Minister of the Environment, Orlando Jorge Mera, attended the Blandino Funeral Home on Abraham Avenue, in the capital, on Tuesday afternoon, where his remains are veiled, in the midst of great sorrow.
The body of the also leader of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) was taken to the scene at 2:20 in the afternoon, after celebrating a “corpse present” mass in the chapel of the National Palace.
Jorge Mera, 55, was shot dead around noon on Tuesday by a “childhood friend” who later turned himself in to the authorities and is awaiting coercion.

The attacker, a construction businessman, was identified as Fausto Miguel de la Mota, 56 years old.
The wake was attended by leaders of the PRM, as well as the ruling Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), including its secretary general, Charlie Mariotti.
The Dominican consul in New York City, Eligio Jáquez, the Defense Minister, Lieutenant General Carlos Luciano Díaz Morfa, and the former deputy, Minú Tavárez Mirabal, among others, also attended.
The Minister of the Interior and Police, Jesús Vásquez Martínez, also attended the funeral home, lamenting the death of Jorge Mera and highlighting his contributions to the country and to democracy.
