The Senate approved today (7) a bill (PL) that creates the June Green Campaign to raise awareness of ecosystem conservation and control of pollution and environmental degradation. The project aims to raise environmental awareness in the population. Now, the text goes to presidential sanction.
The June Green Campaign was born from a proposal by the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB), so that actions in favor of the environment are taken throughout the month of June, when World Environment Day is celebrated, in order to have national mobilization in that regard. According to the project, the campaign would take place with the participation of the government, in partnership with schools, universities, public and private companies, churches and civil society entities.
According to the rapporteur, Reguffe (União Brasil-DF), the campaign is inspired by other already consolidated campaigns, such as Pink October, in attention to breast cancer, Yellow May, which refers to traffic safety, and Blue November for remember prostate cancer prevention care.
Some of the topics to be addressed during the month are: the state of conservation of the environment and means to act in its protection; conscious consumption, reuse and recycling of solid waste; and encouraging environmental innovation through educational projects.
“We believe that the establishment of the June Green Campaign will be able to catalyze the process of environmental awareness in Brazilian society, promoting for a month the discussion of environmental issues in the political, educational, business and media agendas”, said the rapporteur in an opinion.
