The Vice President of the Republic, Beatriz Argimón, assured at a press conference that the way in which the government is acting against violence is causing “a peak moment for certain crimes”, despite highlighting the decrease in several crimes.
Said “peak”, he assured that “it has to do with actions to combat drug trafficking that the government is strongly developing.”
Asked by a journalist about whether Uruguay is going through a security “crisis”, the vice president decided to respond by stating that “it is a moment of attention that we must have in the face of a phenomenon that is being combated, on the one hand, and has repercussions.”
In tune with Lacalle
Over the weekend, President Luis Lacalle Pou had also spoken about insecurity, and responded to criticism from the Broad Front by denying that there had been an increase.
At the 91st Annual Assembly of the Rincón del Cerro Agrarian Defense and Development Society, he stated that “noor do you have to be obtuse, saying that everything is fine is a fallacy and no one would believe it. Now, to say that some things got worse is not truefor instance, on safety matter. The good thing is to deal with objective figures”.
“It is obvious that these two years were marked by a pandemic, but it does not seem to us that we have to be redundant on the subject to make excuses, what had to be done was done, the resources were available and the government continued marching and walking,” he added.
