The Forest+Amazon Project, run by the Ministry of the Environment in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), is accepting applications until the 10th for forest preservation and recovery projects in the nine states of the Legal Amazon, it reported today ( 6) the secretary for the Amazon and Environmental Services of the Ministry of the Environment, Marta Giannichi, in an interview with the program The Voice of Brazil.
At this stage, farmers, indigenous people and quilombolas in the region will be able to bring ideas for territorial management, recovery of native species and preservation in sustainable production chains.
“These projects are geared towards communities. If you are part of an extractive community in the Amazon and you have a great idea of how to improve the forest, you can put them on paper and the best ones will be selected. Farmers, quilombolas and indigenous people are covered,” said Marta.
Another stage of the project, called Floresta+Recuperação, also receives applications for recovery and preservation projects that will be financed by the ministry in partnership with UNDP. Projects by small farmers that have land between 75 and 80 hectares in the region and that promote permanent actions to reduce, in a sustainable and efficient way, the use of natural resources can apply for the initiative. These producers will receive project funds and will be constantly monitored to keep the actions in place.
