Today begins the Santiaguera Culture Week, scheduled until June 12 and marked by activities such as a great conga beat, presentations by folkloric groups, meetings with artisans, troubadours and dancers, casino wheels and culinary contests, among others.
The municipal director of Culture, Yeni de los Reyes, said that the festivity is dedicated to the 507th anniversary of the founding of the town of Santiago de Cuba, the 500th anniversary of the declaration of the southeastern territory as a city, and the centenary of “Mamá, son de the hill”, by Miguel Matamoros.
He stressed that these days will be the opportunity to honor personalities, institutions and groups that characterize the cultural activities of the city.
Working groups with organizations and associations were created to offer a program that pleases the public and enhances the creative work of amateur artists and art professionals.
The actions will be accompanied by a communication strategy on social networks and in the media to promote the work of museums, houses of cultures and libraries.
The Santiaguera Culture Week aims to show the development achieved by the municipality in the literary artistic movement and the conservation of local and national heritage.
