The US is considering lifting some tariffs on China to combat inflation

“There are other products – household items, bicycles, etc – and it may make sense” to consider lifting tariffs on them, he said, adding that the government had decided to keep some of the tariffs on steel and aluminum to protect consumers. American workers and the steel industry.

Biden has said he is considering removing some of the tariffs imposed on hundreds of billions of dollars worth of Chinese goods by his predecessor in 2018 and 2019, amid a bitter trade war between the world’s two largest economies.

China has also been arguing that tariff cuts would lower costs for US consumers.

Raimondo also told CNN that he believes the current shortage of semiconductor chips could continue into 2024.

“There is a solution (to the semiconductor chip shortage),” he added. “Congress has to act and pass the chip bill. I don’t know why they are delaying.”

The bill is intended to boost semiconductor manufacturing in the United States to make the country more competitive with China.

Raimondo said he disagreed with the characterization that Biden’s $1.9 trillion US Bailout had contributed to the current high inflation.
