Since the early hours of the morning on the Buenos Aires-La Plata highway there has been a huge traffic jam, due to a protest carried out by the drivers of buses, kilometer 7 of the road, in the direction of the City.
The manifestation of the drivers has generated delays of more than three hours on the corridor, especially at the Dock Sud toll, where drivers they have been installed as a symbol of protest.
The drivers they demand that the Government authorize them to work, since they cannot mobilize passengers due to the age of the units, they even pointed out that They will maintain the measure of force until the Ministry of Transport gives them a solution.
Ariel Porciel, one of the spokespersons for the protest, pointed out in dialogue with Telam that what they demand is more time to renew their units, since, as of this month, they will lose their transportation license due to their age.
“On June 30, a total of 480 units lose their license authorization and 1,500 families are left without work. We don’t want to ask the State for money, we want them to give us more time to be able to renew our units,”
The traffic jam that extends for more than five kilometers has affected hundreds of citizens who are mobilized this Monday along the road corridor, since drivers from a large part of the country participate in the protest.
Meanwhile, Porciel warned that if the Government does not provide them with a solution, they will take the other section of the road to extend their protest, which has already lasted more than eight hours.
What does the Government say about the drivers’ demonstration?
In response to the request of the driversthe Ministry of Transport stated that a bill is being worked on to extend transportation licenses for two more years.
“The only possible way to make the two-year extension effective is through the National Congress, which will be in charge of convening the tourism bus companies involved to debate the project and continue the dialogue.”
