The president of the Departmental of the National Party of Montevideo, Laura Raffo, assures that her name “sounds” for 2024 and calls herself “leader”.
Raffo did not manage to beat Carolina Cosse in the last departmental elections, despite having grouped all the votes of the five parties of the multicolored coalition (using the same strategy as Luis Lacalle Pou to reach the presidency of the Republic), but he remembers that she had “the honor” of being chosen by the National Party “as party president in Montevideo,” according to an interview she gave to the newspaper The country at the headquarters of the right-wing political force in Ciudad Vieja.
“I consider myself an articulator. No driver, because each party has its leaders and its authorities (…) I consider that I am an article and that I encourage there to be a union. And I want to keep the coalition fire burning in Montevideo,” said the economist and former television commentator.
Her relationship with Luis Lacalle Pou, she says, is “back and forth” since he convinced her to enter politics. “At the time I did not dare to take the leap (more than 10 years ago) because I was building a career at the private level and my children were younger, but when he made me the proposal to be a candidate for mayor it was impossible for me to say that no,” he recalled.
She has met with the president several times, according to her, and he “feeds her back” and gives her “advice.”

Raffo does not feel identified with any sector, and classifies herself as a “humanist”, “perhaps because of the training I had, because I went to the French Lyceum, and the French are very fond of putting the human being at the center”.
“I believe that all the policies that are created have to have people at the center,” he continued.
Regarding his position within the PN, he refuses to identify himself with any of the predominant or minority sectors, and understands that “the limits between Herrerismo and Wilsonismo are being erased.”
Regarding her political future, she commented: “I am aware that my name sounds and that means that I have generated a reputation for work, for working well, and that I have become a leader within the party. And it seems barbaric to me, that’s fine, I will never deny that. I’m lovin ‘it”.
