A civil police officer was arrested today (6th), during an operation by the Specialized Action Group in Combating Organized Crime (Gaeco) of the Public Ministry of the State of Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ). The agent was charged with crimes of money laundering, loan sharking and bidding fraud. In addition to the arrest, the operation took to the streets in order to fulfill search and seizure warrants at 11 addresses linked to the police officer.
According to the MPRJ’s complaint, he concealed the use of goods and values resulting from criminal offenses, acquired, received, negotiated and transferred the ownership of goods in the municipality of Bom Jesus do Itabapoana, in northwest Rio de Janeiro. According to the MP, throughout the investigations, preliminary investigations carried out by the Support Group for Prosecutors showed that “the accused was a partner in numerous companies, had luxurious vehicles and lived in a high-end house located in the center of Bom Jesus do Itabapoana”
The investigations also showed that the police officer practiced a series of irregularities for ten years. “All aimed at increasing his assets, incompatible with the gains from the activity of a civil police officer”, said the MP, adding that the agent still “manipulated relatives and close people and made use of shady deals. Most of the companies of the civil police and their relatives were considered a front,” he added.
In the conversations carried out in telephone interception authorized by the Court, other illicit acts became evident. The MP informed that in the audios it is clear the rapprochement of the accused with politicians of the region. In addition, the police officer was a medical student at Universidade Nova Iguaçu (Unig), in Baixada Fluminense. However, for the prosecutors, there was an apparent geographical and temporal incompatibility between full-time medical graduation and the performance of civil police activity. “In 2016, when the accused started college in Itaperuna, he was stationed in Italva, Campos dos Goytacazes and Bom Jesus do Itabapoana, municipalities far from Unig’s headquarters.”
