Who were voting?

The vote is secret, mandatory and unique. The Electoral Court reported that the case of passive and active members is exempted from the obligation to those who are 75 years old on the date of the election and to those who, whatever their age, are holders of disability benefits served by the BPS .

Assets

People over 18 years of age who are registered as public or private workers in the BPS, as of February 28, 2021, vote. Those who were covered by unemployment, maternity, sickness or temporary partial disability subsidy also vote, as long as the working relationship is maintained.

The worker who has multiple affiliations to the Social Security Bank, will have the right to only one vote.

Passives

Also eligible are people over 18 years of age as of February 28, 2021 who have been declared retired, survivor pensioners and old-age or disability pensioners by resolution of the Board of Directors of the BPS prior to that date (February 28 2021) and have not been declared incapacitated by a competent judge, in accordance with the applicable regulations.

Whoever meets the quality of retiree and pensioner or receives more than one retirement or pension, will only have the right to one vote.

Contributing companies

Contributing non-state companies, registered as such in the Social Security Bank, who are up to date as of February 28, 2021, in the payment of their obligations and in that of the facilities granted, whose voters are 18 years of age are voters.

All contributing companies, whatever their nature or form of incorporation, will have, like sole proprietorships, a single vote and a single representative per voter.

Legal persons and multi-person companies must be represented by a proxy with express powers to vote. In the case of sole proprietorships, holders who are 75 years of age on the day of the election and who, whatever their age, are holders of disability benefits served by the BPS, are exempt from the obligation.

General disposition

To vote, the civic credential must be presented. Qualified foreigners who do not have said document may vote with an identity card.

Those who are authorized to vote and are working on election day have the right to paid time off of no less than two hours to attend to vote in their respective circuits.

Voting is mandatory, except for those who on the date of the election are over 75 years of age regardless of the order, or receive disability benefits.

The fine for not voting is one Adjustable Unit (that is, 1,358 pesos). Said fine will be doubled in the case of professionals with degrees issued by the University of the Republic or public officials. In the case of companies, the fines increase by UR according to the number of employees they have.

The justifications for not voting are: “Suffering from illness, disability or physical impossibility that prevents you from voting on election day, being unable to attend due to force majeure, being out of the country on election day and being domiciled abroad of the department in which you must vote ”.

The deadline for submitting justification requests is January 27, 2022.

Those who are qualified in more than one order must vote in each order.

There is no observed vote, so you must vote in the place where the civic credential is registered.
