A new fatal victim occurred in the southern zone this morning, in a property located on the road that connects Villarrica with Lican Ray. A Mapuche community member was killed after being hit by a bullet in his chest, in the midst of claiming ancestral territory in the area.
Seeing the presence of six Mapuche community members inside the property, the owner of the place fired a gun, hitting a 33-year-old man, who was taken to the Villarrica Hospital, dying a few minutes later.
According to relatives of the deceased, this was a peaceful claim, where those present did not carry weapons at the time of death. In turn, they took advantage of criticizing the government for not giving a solution to the demand for the return of ancestral lands.
It should be noted that on May 11, Mapuche community members informed the owner of the property of the intention of territorial recovery, a fact that was reported to the Carabineros, who were carrying out preventive rounds in the area.
