“It has been tense, inhuman and cruel to see on the first day one of the young people go into a state of panic due to lack of medicine, his brother being transferred to a hospital on a patrol due to a large increase in his blood pressure; and so on. having the torture of spending a long night waiting for dawn to continue the process, “said Rodríguez about the arbitrariness that is presented within the Provincial People’s Court.
For Eduardo Gutiérrez Alonso, who remains under provisional prison in the Guanajuay Technician and faces charges for the crimes of public disorder, contempt and attack, the prosecution requests 12 years in prison. To date, several independent organizations have documented 1,283 arrested as a result of the demonstrations of July 11 and 42 convicted in summary trials. Of that total, at least 540 are still in prison.
In a report, the legal consultancy Cubalex showed special concern about “the use of the figure of sedition to impose exemplary sanctions on at least 122 people” and recalled that before July 11, Cuban Prisoners Defenders registered 152 political prisoners.
