National observers report on elections in Honduras

Tegucigalpa, Nov 28 (Prensa Latina) The Honduran Council of Private Enterprise, one of the national institutions in charge of observing the electoral process, announced today its first report on the opening of voting centers and the irregularities detected.

The spokesperson for that group, Carlos Medrano, reported that 90.4 percent of the Vote Receiving Boards (JRV) visited opened around 08:30 (local time) and 27.2 percent of those structures did not have all owner members at the scheduled start time (07:00 local time).

According to the electoral observer, most of the JRVs presented the necessary material, with the exception of the technological kit, absent in 20.2 percent of the tables in Tegucigalpa, the capital, and nearby departments such as Francisco Morazán, Cortés and Lempira.

“In more than 90 percent of the boards verified, the electoral census was visible to the voters, they had adequate information about the location of the table and isolated cases of threat, harassment or intimidation were appreciated, impediment to carry out the observation and retention of material, “he communicated.

In 16.7 percent of the JRVs the biometric fingerprint reader was not used as a consequence, for the most part, of the lack of training of the personnel, the breakage of the same or the non-arrival, for which some citizens expressed their refusal to exercise the right to vote through traditional methods.

This Sunday, Honduras will select the president, three presidential appointees (vice-presidents), 128 deputies from the national parliament and 20 from the Central American (Parlacen); likewise, the voters will decide the representatives of 298 municipal governments.
