It should be noted that the President announced a plan to build 260,000 homes in his four years in office, averaging 65,000 housing units per year.

Faced with this measure, Minister Montes stressed in Cooperative Radio that in our country “there is a housing emergency, the deficit is very strong and we need to increase the pace of housing solutions”.
Addressing the measure announced by the President, he specified: “How is it achieved? By diversifying the ways of accessing housing, we are proposing new programs that we hope will make it possible for more people to apply and for us to have more land, we already practically have the land for this year and the next, we need to complete for the four years and build the Soil Bank”.
“We are going to access industrialized housing, something that up to now has not been used in public programs, and we already have four projects underway that are faster and have a lower cost,” he added.
The head of Housing expressed that the task will not be easy, since the constitution materials are at high prices, to which is added a deficit of teachers, “but you have to work on it.”

When referring to the applications and who can access the housing budgeted by the State, the Secretary of State was emphatic that “the institutional path proposed is the main thing.”
“If you ask me if those who have taken land will have preference, no; those who are applying will have preference,” he assured. At the same time, he was clear in indicating that in the case of the camps we have a program to eradicate the oldest camps and all those that are possible to eradicate, but whoever skips the line will not access the mechanism.”

Addressing the problem of the camps, which is increasing in our country, Montes pointed out that “the first thing is to register, we have to know what is happening there, because we do not know how many children, elderly people and women there are. We have to do a multi-state work table, there are different government authorities that today have to work to see how we are going to solve it, we have to think about housing policy, immigration policy. They have to be sitting at the table with me the Minister of Housing, the Serviu, the Minister of Health, because this is multifactorial.”
The former senator also explained that they have planned other ways to combat Chile’s housing deficit, such as joint work with companies, unions and municipalities.
“The ways to access housing are going to be expanded: we are seeing a program with municipally owned housing for extreme social situations, a line of work with companies and unions, one with the Serviu to build buildings and also self-construction that is very in demand in some areas,” he assured.
Another path proposed by the minister is leases, although he is aware of their current problems: “very high prices and very unstable costs.” To do this, he explained that “the plan is to have an average of 5,000 homes per year for rentals, in a program that allows governorates, municipalities, the Serviu and also non-profit organizations to receive a subsidy to build rental homes, under certain rules. , a range of charges depending on size and location”.
For this, a program of leases at a fair price, linked to family income, is analyzed. “It can’t be just anyone and it can’t rise above inflation either,” he said.
At the end, he wanted to reassure private parties, indicating that “those who have bought apartments to rent, as their own capital, should not feel threatened”
