During the last 24 hours, numerous rains have been reported in western and central Cuba. The largest volume has been reported so far at the meteorological station in Punta del Este, Isla de la Juventud, with 155 millimeters, followed by Isabel Rubio, Pinar del Río with 135 millimeters, and by Nueva Gerona, Isla de la Juventud, with 129. millimeters.
The rains are associated with the low pressure zone located in the seas near the Yucatan Peninsula. It was located in the morning hours about 200 kilometers north of Cozumel, Mexico.
According to forecasts, the area of low pressure has a high probability of reaching tropical cyclone development during the next 24 to 48 hours as it moves slowly northeastward in the southeastern Gulf of Mexico, very close to the western end of Cuba.
The most dangerous element is related to the heavy and intense rains that are affected from dawn and morning to the west and center of the country, where floods have been reported.
Cloudy weather is forecast to continue over much of the country, with showers and rains in the west and center, which will be strong and intense in several locations.
South Florida, including the western Bahamas Keys, could receive 4 to 10 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts of up to 12 inches.
