Congressmen pay tribute to Brigade 2506: “They are the moral reference of this exile”

MIAMI, United States. — Congressmen Maria Elvira Salazar and Mike Bost, the highest-ranking Republican in the House Veterans Affairs Committee, visited the Bay of Pigs museum in Miami on Thursday, reported Radio Television Marti.

The occasion served for both representatives to participate in a Round Table closed to the press, where the contribution and legacy of the Assault Brigade 2506 were vindicated.

“The Bay of Pigs veterans are the moral reference of this exile, because he who was willing at 18 years old to face the Castro forces to defend the Island with the hope that it would not fall into communism must be recognized at all times” , Maria Elvira declared to Radio Television Marti.

The visit of legislator Mike Bost (Illinois) served to deliver a congressional citation to Bay of Pigs veterans.

Both politicians also offered recognition to the recently elected president of Brigade 2506, Rafael Montalvo.

“Very honored. That the American Congress honor the Brigade is a very important thing. And I believe that they not only honor the Brigade, but all Cubans,” said Montalvo.

Against Biden’s measures

María Elvira referred to the recent measures taken by the United States government to eliminate numerous restrictions on the Cuban regime, dismantling the policy followed by Donald Trump between 2017 and 2021.

“It is about the decision to give oxygen to a nefarious government. It’s not the flights, it’s the big package where unfortunately you can see the will on the part of President Biden’s administration to want to give oxygen to people who have a boot on the people’s neck.”

In accordance with Radio Television Martithe congressmen also paid a visit to the Bruce W. Carter veterans medical center together with fellow Cuban-American representative Carlos Giménez, former mayor of Miami-Dade.
