Shops bet to recover their sales on a Black Friday with less dynamism

Black Friday 2021 was not as dynamic as in previous years. The day was becoming timid since the beginning of the day. The main commercial establishments of the central polygon operated normally and the tumult of other times was not noticed.

Citizens attributed the panorama to the lack of money, others to the fact that the offers have been since the beginning of November.

“I needed an air conditioner and I bought it two weeks ago. The truth is that it was a great purchase because today, which is supposed to be cheaper, it has a few extra chelitos, ”said Jesús Almonte, a consumer who was in one of the establishments visited by the executive director of Pro Consumidor, Eddy Alcántara.

The day passed normally, earplugs as usual, but some people were observed leaving business with televisions, furniture, room sets, washing machines, stoves and portable speakers, among others.

Mario Lama, president of the National Organization of Commercial Companies (ONEC) and one of the main executives of the Plaza Lama stores, assured that before the current problems of delays and high costs of maritime transport occurred, the department store was able to stock up in advance, which is why it indicated that it has enough inventory to offer to consumers this Black Friday and the rest of the year 2021.

“We (Plaza Lama), thank God, were able to stock up on time, before the problems with maritime cargo began, which, as everyone knows, maritime cargo is a bit expensive and ships are scarce,” explained the businessman .

The expectations that in Plaza Lama for Black Friday were high and with this they sought to overcome and go out of the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

On stage, the executive director of the National Institute for the Protection of Consumer Rights (Pro Consumidor), Eddy Alcántara, congratulated the executives of Plaza Lama and said that this is one of the establishments that the entity has followed up from November 1, with prior verification.

“We are checking the price that the offer had and it certainly has a price below the price that was offered since we began to carry out the operations,” he said.

He indicated that so far they had not received any complaint about misleading offers, but that the inspectors would stay all day in the establishments that were previously the subject of complaints.

“The report we have is that all the offers that are being exhibited are certainly charged at the price that they previously had,” he reiterated.

The Pro Consumidor inspectors have been dispersed in Greater Santo Domingo, Santiago, San Cristóbal, La Vega and San Pedro de Macorís, among other places.
