Travelers from the United States must have their complete vaccination schedule to enter Cuba

Travelers from the United States must present their complete vaccination schedule to enter Cuba, an exclusive requirement for those arriving on the island from that country. The official press assured this Saturday that, since November 15, the Cuban Civil Aeronautics Institute (IACC) notified US airlines about this obligation.

Armando L. Daniel López, president of the IACC, explained to the official gazette Granma that the measure, approved by the Government and the Ministry of Public Health (Minsap), does not include passengers from the rest of the airlines that “can arrive on the island with a negative PCR if they are not vaccinated.”

For his part, Carmelo Trujillo Machado, head of the Department of International Health Control of the Minsap, added that “travelers who come from that country must bring a complete vaccination scheme from any of the regulatory agencies that are approved.”

The only exception to this measure are children 12 years of age or younger, or a person who can certify a medical condition that prevents their vaccination. “The rest of the passengers have to come with mandatory vaccination,” he said.

Since last November 7, travelers arriving in Cuba do not have to undergo a mandatory quarantine or present a negative PCR

Without giving reasons for the exception imposed on travelers from the US, Trujillo Machado preferred to remember that to enter US territory, the traveler – whether or not a resident – must be vaccinated with one of the formulas approved by the World Health Organization or the FDA (US Food and Drug Administration).

US health regulations also require a PCR within 72 hours of being performed, even if the traveler is vaccinated.

Since last November 7, travelers arriving in Cuba do not have to undergo a mandatory quarantine or present a negative PCR, although they must show an international certificate of vaccination against covid-19. In the case of those who are not vaccinated, they must present a negative PCR-RT certificate for the coronavirus, carried out in a certified laboratory within 72 hours prior to the trip.

The current exception for travelers from the United States may cause additional inconveniences to the family trips of Cuban emigrants to the Island. In the state of Florida, with the largest Cuban community in that country, 61% of the population has the complete vaccination schedule.
