Brawl in La Pica prison

Rivalries between groups led to a confrontation within the Monagas Judicial Detention Center, located in the La Pica sector, military sources said. So far two deaths and six injuries have been reported.

The shooting began around 4 pm on Monday when shots were heard in the La Base area, one of the three compartments into which the so-called La Pica Prison is divided.

It all started because a group of inmates wanted to displace the negative leader known by the nickname of Pedro Quickie. His followers shot eight members of the rival group who were taken to the “Nelson Mandela” New Man Training Center, an establishment located next to La Pica Prison.

Among the injured, two died in a health center. One of those deceased is the dark-haired brother of another of the injured inmates, according to military versions.

Since this Monday, the Bolivarian National Guard has reinforced external custody in the Monaguense prison.

La Pica Prison is one of the seven prisons in transition, a category used by the Penitentiary Ministry to signify that the so-called New Regime, consisting of a set of rules based on discipline, work and study, is not fully implemented there. according to the explanation given at the time Iris Varela, former holder of that portfolio.
