The price per kilo of eggs could increase due to the fact that the producers of this poultry input reduced the raising of laying hens by almost half, due to the increase in poultry feed. This was warned by Alex Jerí, representative of the Association of Poultry Farmers of the South (Avisur).
“The situation has been critical for several months. Before to raise 10,000 hens we needed US$40,000 and now about US$80.00, this is due to the disproportionate increase in raw materials such as corn, soybeans and wheat that have doubled the price”, he explained on Channel N.
In that sense, the union spokesman commented that they had to reduce the raising of their birds by half. “What will happen with this is that there will be demand for the product, but not supply.”, he indicated.

He added that in 2021 there were 29 million hens nationwide and now they have been reduced to 23 million. “We need an average of 26 million to cover the needs of the inhabitants of Peru“, accurate.
Jerí mentioned that they spend an average of S/ 6.70 to S/ 6.80 per kilo of eggs and that in the coming weeks it would rise above S/ 9.00.
“The way it is going, we are going to have a price above S/ 9.00 and we don’t want that. We don’t intend for the price to go that high because it will take it away from the most popular tables of people who need it because eggs are the cheapest protein out there.”, said the spokesman
For this reason, Avisur’s representative asked the Executive to remove the VAT and tariffs on raw materials, such as corn, soybeans and wheat, in order to maintain the market price.
