Important prize in Spain for the Cuban researcher Luis Enrique Ramos Guadalupe

Cuban professor and researcher Luis Enrique Ramos Guadalupe won the XIII Juan Andrés Prize for essay and research in the human sciences, corresponding to 2022, for his work “On meteorology and hurricanes: Benito Viñes, a Spanish scientist in Cuba,” according to reports. of press.

Specialized in the History of Science and, in particular, in the work of Benito Viñes, to whose study he has made important contributions, Luis Enrique Ramos Guadalupe (Havana, 1955) has been a professor of Science and Geography and has held functions in the National Museum of the History of Sciences “Carlos J. Finlay”, in the Academy of Sciences of Cuba and in the Fernando Ortiz Foundation, specifies a dispatch from the agency EFE.

Author of books and investigative articles, Ramos Guadalupe is a founding member of the Cuban Meteorological Society, as well as a member of the Cuban Society for the History of Science and Technology, and the International Commission for the History of Meteorology.

In addition, he is a member of the Editorial Board of Vivarium and of the Cuban Meteorology Magazine, and currently works at the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana.

The Juan Andrés Institute for Comparatistics and Globalization and the Humanism-Europe Research Group of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Alicante (UA), in collaboration with the Hispanic Institute-Library Seminar, awarded him the 2022 Juan Andrés Prize in session held last Saturday, says the Spanish agency.

The award will be given, together with the Library Distinction —deserved by the Editorial Verbum—on June 27 in a virtual session via videoconference.

During the event, the edited work corresponding to the 2021 Prize will also be presented, “The Hispano-American Literary Criticism (A Historical Introduction)”, by the professor and researcher at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Puebla (Mexico) Sebastián Pineda, born in Medellín (Colombia) and based in Mexico, adds EFE.

The Juan Andrés Prize for Essay and Research in Human Sciences is a project of the Juan Andrés Institute for Comparatistics and Globalization and is fundamentally dedicated to Human Sciences, History of Ideas and the reconstruction of Hispanic culture.

Established in 2010, it is awarded annually in Spain to innovative work, and seeks to promote an attitude of plurality and humanistic liberality. It is not an award with an economic endowment or other commercial rewards, but rather a prestigious intellectual recognition, as well as the publication of the selected work.
