Two months before a new board of directors in congresslegislator Wilmar Elera believed that it should be renew the presidents and vice-presidents of Parliament. In that sense, he pointed out that this designation will depend on the political forces with the greatest representation.
The parliamentarian of Somos Perú also ruled on a possible re-election of María del Carmen Alva and —despite emphasizing that he is not against it— he considered that he had already completed “his stage”.
“I am not against (a re-election), but I think that María del Carmen Alva has already had her process, her stage, and in that sense it is good to renew a new board of directors,” said the legislator on the outskirts of Congress.
Likewise, he indicated that his bench will seek to integrate the board of directors for the period 2022-2023 and that for this they have been working “several alternatives” with the different benches.
“Several alternatives are being worked on. With the vote of my bench, we want to be on the board of directors and everything will depend on the political forces, which, in this case, Peru Libre, Fuerza Popular, Acción Popular and Alianza para el Progreso, can define, “he said.
Popular Action congressmen would not support the re-election of María del Carmen Alva
The Republic communicated with some congressmen from the Popular Action bloc, who agreed that the rotation of the board of directors should be respected for the next period, ruling out support for a re-election of María del Carmen Alva.
“I do not deny that there may be a possibility of re-election by the president of Congress, but the agreement with the political benches was that the board of directors be rotating. This pact has to be for the sake of democracy and it would correspond to another bench. In my case, I would not agree with Maricarmen Alva continuing in office,” said parliamentarian Luis Aragón.
A similar opinion was held by Edwin Martínez, who believed that Alva should “step aside” and give another congressman from the lampa caucus the opportunity to assume the position he was holding at the head of Parliament.
